Superflex Grades 1-3

Mondays from 4:30pm – 5:30pm, starting 9/12/2016 – 12/12/2016, 12 weeks (No Group 10/31/16 or 11/21/16.)

The Superflex group is for children in grades 1 to 3 who are looking to improve social skills. In general, the majority of lessons are targeted to students with verbal language abilities (understanding and expressing language) of at least a Pre-K level. Children will learn about social thinking and skills through the use of this fun curriculum, which follows a social-thinking super hero, named “Superflex,” as he battles the “Unthinkables,”a group of unwanted social behaviors. The goal is to provide an engaging and motivating way to improve the child’s social and behavioral flexibility and self-monitoring skills and to ultimately develop improved social behavior. The Superflex group meets weekly for 12 weeks.

Superflex Kindergarten

Tuesdays from 4:30pm – 5:30pm, starting 9/06/16 – 11/08/16, 10 weeks

This group takes the Superflex curriculum (see above) and modifies it for children in Kindergarten. The Superflex Kindergarten group meets weekly for 10 weeks.

Preschool Social Skills Group, Ages 3-5

Fridays from 9am – 10am, starting 8/26/16 – 10/14/16, 8 weeks

This group focuses on age appropriate social skills and impulse control strategies for children in preschool. Specific skills of focus include, but are not limited to, appropriate peer interaction, communication with peers, following directions from adults and peers, following a group routine, sharing and turn taking.

ADHD/F.O.C.U.S Group, Grades 2-4

Tuesdays from 5pm – 6pm , starting 09/27/16 – 11/15/16, 8 weeks

This group is for children in grades 2 to 4 who have been diagnosed with ADHD. This group will focus on understanding the meaning of ADHD, managing feelings and impulses, developing organizational skills, and maximizing concentration abilities. Parents will also be given handouts and provided with brief interventional and supportive strategies at the end of each group. This group meets weekly for 8 weeks.

Zones of Regulation Group, Grades 4-6

Wednesdays from 4:30pm – 5:30pm, starting 09/14/16 – 11/2/16, 8 weeks

This group is for children in grades 4-6 who have difficulty with self-regulation. Children diagnosed with ASD, ADHD and/or ODD may specifically benefit from this group. In general, the majority of lessons are targeted to children with average to above-average cognitive abilities. The goal of the group is to teach children steps towards improved self-regulation and to provide a supportive environment where children can practice learned skills with peers.

Middle School Boys Peer Group

Thursdays from 5pm – 6pm, starting 09/15/16 (open enrollment, weekly group)

This group provides a safe environment where boys can discuss some of the most common issues and challenges that middle school presents. Some of the topics of discussion are: Age appropriate social behavior, problem solving, self-esteem, and impulse control. Group members will have the opportunity to discuss these issues in healthy and productive ways. This group meets weekly and is ongoing, meaning that participants are free to enroll throughout the year.

Middle School Girls Peer Group

Tuesdays from 5pm – 6pm, starting 9/13/16 (open enrollment, weekly group)

This group is for middle school girls who are experiencing social isolation, rejection, and feeling like they do not fit in with peers. This group will help girls explore what kinds of friendships are appropriate for them; what to do when surrounded by “mean girls” and how to be happy just being who they are. This group meets weekly and is ongoing, meaning that participants are free to enroll throughout the year.

High School Boys Peer Group

Mondays from 5pm – 6pm, starting 9/12/16 (open enrollment, weekly group)

This group is for high school boys and will provide a forum for participants to verbalize and process different social, emotional and academic stressors that are associated with high school as well as develop/improve problem solving skills. Specific areas of focus include, but are not limited to, building and maintaining friendships, controlling impulses, developing thoughtful decision making and problem solving skills, and providing support for social and academic stressors. This group meets weekly and is ongoing, meaning that participants are free to enroll throughout the year.

High School Girls Peer Group

Wednesdays from 5pm – 6pm, starting 9/14/16 (open enrollment, weekly group)

This group provides support for high school girls as they experience the social, emotional, and academic stressors associated with high school. The focus of the group is to help build self-esteem, encourage appropriate expression of feelings, increase coping skills, and develop thoughtful decision making and problem solving skills. This group meets weekly and is ongoing, meaning that participants are free to enroll throughout the year.

PCIT at Legacy (Parent-Child Interaction Therapy)

Group Dates and Times: Thursdays from 5pm – 6pm
Session A: 8/18/16 – 10/6/16, 8 weeks
Session B: 10/13/16 – 12/8/16, 8 weeks (no group Thanksgiving)

PCIT is an intervention based therapy that uses a two-stage approach aimed at relationship enhancement and child behavior management. Parents are first taught relationship building skills to use during interactions with their children. Then, parents are instructed through a positive discipline program including effective delivery of commands, with an appropriate parent response for child noncompliance and strategies designed to increase compliance. PCIT is being offered in a group setting so that parents can build a support system that includes other parents who are dealing with similar behaviors and are learning a new method of parenting.

Mother’s Support Group

Group Dates and Times: TBD

This group is for mothers who are parenting a child diagnosed with a disability, such as autism or a genetic/chromosomal abnormality. The purpose of this group is to provide peer support to mothers who are going through similar struggles and triumphs and will also serve as a platform to share and provide helpful information regarding this unique journey. The group meets every other week and is ongoing; it is an open group so new members are welcome to join at any time.

Adult Women’s Support Group

Group Dates and Times: Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30, open enrollment

This group provides ongoing education and support while exploring the mystery of self-esteem. Each meeting centers on a topic important to women and provides an opportunity for each participant to apply that theme to their own life. The group meets weekly, is ongoing, and participants are expected to enroll for at least 8 sessions.
